What are some attacks that are super powerful in the anime but pathetic in the games, or vice versa?
The ones I can think of are...
Vine Whip: The vines are unbreakable in the anime, they can deflect attacks (like Razor Leaf in the first movie), and they can pick up and seismic toss anything. But in the game it does pathetic damage and has no additional effect.
Hyper Beam: Ah, the ultimate attack, at least in the anime. It can blast through anything and usually delivers an OHKO. But in the game, it is way overrated and the drawbacks are crippling (unless used by Slaking).
Rapid Spin: In the anime, it forms an impenetrable defense around the user and has an attack power that rivals Take Down. But in the game, it gives no protection to the user and only does 20 damage.
Confusion: Even more powerful than Psychic in the anime. Basically lifts up the opponent and tosses them like a rag doll.
Disable: In the anime, it

Yeah, atacks like Vine Whip and Rapid Spin being so powerfull in the anime is stupid but I think Hyper Beam is portrated right cause let`s face it,that atack can mess up an opponent pretty bad in the games unless it`s used on a Rock or Steel type and the anime doesn`t seem to have the rule of "turns" in battles.
Confusion is like a replacement for Psychic since we haven`t even seen Psychic being used in the anime ever (at least I haven`t) since it would probably be an unavoidable atack of mass destruction.
I think Horn Drill does a good amount of damage in the anime because I remember in one episode (the episode was about a girl trying to catch a Surfing Rhydon) all of Misty`s and Ash`s water pokemon went after the Rhydon underwater and then he used a Horn Drill that created some kind of whirlpool that instantly KO-ed every pokemon that was in the water.
Disable freezing things is also silly.

There are also some attacks that they have never shown on the anime, simply because it would be either impossible or they would be way too powerful.
Examples: Life draining attacks like Absorb, mega drain and gigadrain. If they were used in the anime, then they could just be used over and over again making the caster invincible.
attacks that require a certain environment to work- rockslide, surf, moonlight etc. These have appeared once or twice but only in convenient places, whereas in the game you can use them any time, you can even dig underwater and surf or fly in a cave. HOW, exactly?
many of the attacks in the anime also all do the same thing I.E. blizzard, ice wind, ice beam, sheer cold all freeze the enemy solid, instantly winning the match.

I remember a battle in the anime between Pikachu and Cloyster. Pikachu was using Thunderbolt on it, and Cloyster used Withdraw. Instead of doing super effective damage, Cloyster didn't suffer any damage and pretty much blocked the attack. Then Pikachu got slammed with a single Aurora Beam. No more Pikachu.

"Pikachu! Thunderbolt Rhydon! Aim for the Horn!"
*Rhydon faints*
Yeah. The Anime is more along the lines of actually living the game. In the anime, a pokemon can be trained so that its Ember attack is more powerful than the opponents Fire Blast attack.
Also in the anime, a pokemon can be trained for a specific stat with specific exercises. Like AJ's Sandshrew could resist Water attacks.
The game is much more simple because all the variables in real-life would take away the fun.
However, Thundershock and Thunderbolt KOing Onyx and Rhydon is total crap and was horrible. Because we all know that Rhydon is like "lol" at Pikachu...unless Pika can Surf.

Remember the Rapid Spin Pikachu copped from Misty's Staryu? The little electric mouse nearly got knocked off the platform as though half of his HP had been deducted!

And Fire Spin. Remember the episode in where Brock gets Vulpix? Vulpix used Fire Spin. Vulpix has to charge first and the spin was big and burned Team Rocket. In the games, Fire Spin only cause a little damage. Unreasonable.

The legendary thunderbolt on marowak....
Also, Squirtle's OHKO Bubble (or bubblebeam) against Machamp in the first movie; the amazing similarity between agility and quick attack in the anime; twister attack being a gigantic tornado....
Finally, just pointing out the one which is, IMO, the ultimate attack in the series: the frequently forgotten Bulbasaur's Leech Seed. Used twice in the anime (vs Venonat and Beedrill), won both matches. Sweet 8)
The way I see it, the advanced generation takes the games much more into consideration, there may still be flaws, but things began being more sensible during the Johto season, I believe.

I remember the episode.
I think it was about the battle AshVSBlaine- the first battle.

Thunderwave seems to do a lot of damage in the anime but it only paralizes the opponent in the game.

You mean thunderwave (I hope).
(And no one dies in the anime... they just faint, it's a kid's anime, after all )

it was in hoenn they started really changin, they still had tonnes of non-game in johto, I'm watchin master quest, ashes fight with prce, and oh ya, who exactly considers swift overly powerful? And why did it hurt dewgong more at close range? And in the hoenn thingy I watched today, WTF? Pikachu was on swellow, used thunder at the clouds, got reflected back at him (notice, it looked like pikachu was takin more damage from thunder than swellow in my opinion, even though they MENTIONED swellows weakness) then when thunder died out they were like, golden, and the lunatone used icebeam at swellow, it just bounced off the golden armor and swellow flew right though, WTF? And ya, the anime does have it where you need to be in conveniant places, eg, on the way to blackthorn, in the mountains somethin used rockslide. And what exactly does surf do anyways, like, where does the wave come from? I used to think it would be like water gun, bulbble, etc. where it comes out of there mouth, but... doesn't look like it.

I find that defensive moves such as Withdraw, Harden and stuff like that are extra powerful in the anime, allowing Pokemon to avoid powerful attacks. Also, there are certain attacking moves that can counter the foe's moves as well. For instance, Ash's Corphish is able to dispel Cacnea's Pin Missile using its Crab Hammer attack. Moves like Gust can blow away attacks like Stun Spore.
In addition, some Pokemon are naturally powerful. For instance, Cloyster (The Bridge Bike Gang) just had to close its shell and it looked kinda invincible. Sure, the foe was the useless Psyduck-without-a-headache, but still, it looked like nothing could penetrate the shell.

Have u also ever noticed in the anime, the person who owns a pokemon can command his/her pokemon to dodge an attack made by the opponent while the game can't,Ex:ash said:{pikachu},use thundershock!
Roxanne said:{nosepass} ,dodge and use Rock slide!
ash said:{pikachu} ! dodge and use Quick attack.
Its impossible in the game to tell the pokemon to dodge and use other moves.

For now, darklugia, just for now... let's hope nintendo hears you out before pearl and diamond come out
Is it just me, or it's extremely hard to differ a thunderbolt from a thunder in the anime?
Also, I remember pidgeotto using double-edge on a rhydon... Struck twice, that's what it did... no damage to pidgeotto. I think they got the "double" part all mixed up there...

Yawn! Yawn takes a long time to work in the game, yet in the show the pink bubble takes them out in a "pop."

there is also the matter of Hyper beam. In the anime, a pokemon can use it multiple times without any adverse effects, like having to recharge.
I still find it so funny on the game when I am on the ship and get a pokemon to use dig, In reality, we'd all be at the bottom of the sea shortly after the attack.

Skiploom can learn SolarBeam without TM in the anime. Remember the the Grass Pokemon tournament where Ash's Bulbasaur lost to a SolarBeaming Skiploom?

Here's an interesting question to ponder... What level is Ash's Pikachu? He could be any level above the Quick Attack level if he used TMs, but if not Pikachu's at least Lvl 41. Dunno!
And one thing that happens (seemingly a lot) in the Anime is attacks clashing and then exploding half the field. Pity that doesn't happen in the game. It would make it a lot moe fun... Or would it?
