Blackwind Pokemon Ranger Joined: Wed Aug 24, 2005 7:15 am Posts: 894	He encounters random elite members during the journeys, but the Elite 4 was something made almost exclusively for the pokemon games. In the anime it'd be similar to battling gym leaders if it was official matches, and personally I think 8 leaders per region is more than enough. So ash just encounters them randomly during the show, gets pwned/doesn't even battle, and life goes on.

He fought and beat ash with altaria and shelgon if I'm correct, and Dragon Claw'ed team rocket away with a (beautiful) salamence. One of the few E4 of the anime that resembled the game's in team formation and power.

Ash also fought Koga for a marsh badge, but he was only a member of the elite 4 in the gold and silver games so i suppose this does'nt really count.
