Somehow I guess I'm late on hearing about this, but in BW's rules for wifi matches it's required to use only GenV learnsets.

At first I though this would suck, but after a bit I began to feel this would a great improvement for the current metagame.

-SR would be limited
-No Iron head Jirachi
-No bug bite Scizor
-No Earth power Shaymin
-No Outrage Salamence
-No Wish or Seismic toss from gen3 Blissey
-Rest+Sleep talk is gone from many pokes.

In general it brings genI-IV movepools on par with GenV pokes.

It only applies on random matches, but as it's the game's first ranked online battling system people will make teams set around these rules as well as community rules. The thread discussion I wanted to make is if should be applied to FC wifi as well as simulatiors, since most competitive collect games tend to "retire" older sets, cards, figures from tournaments it would be a least be a sensible debate if pokemon movesets should follow, as there are, in some opinions, balance issues that are resolved with it.

So yeah poll and opinions go!

Bye, my Icy wind Mismagius :/

It is honestly to early to really tell how this will affect the metagame right now, because there are just way to many ubers running amuck right now that haven't been bumped up yet. I'm not going to complain about Stealth Rocks being limited because it means I can have a little more freedom with my Fire types.

In the new Gen i'm finding Natoorei, Hippo, Ttar and Ape the most effective SR set uppers.

It won't destroy smogon, but Smogon will either have to enforce genV movesets to "be true" to wifi battling esp. as it's now ranked. Or more likely they will need to run separate metagames to accommodate both styles.

Also some pokes get 4genTM and tutor moves via dream world and thus can be used in wifi. Aerodactyl for instance, gets SR in Dream World so it should be able to use it in wifi, even if transfered from genIV. Though if it had a genV egg move it would be illegal with SR.

Can anyone confirm for me if Rotom-A can be used in wifi? I can't seem to find anything about it.

Smogon wouldn't get destroyed by this change. It is merely something new they have to get used to and adapt to, or just have two seperate metagames like Chef said.

I can confirm with 99% assurance that Rotom-A can be used in WiFi. I have seen many battles with the Rotom forms being used.

I, like /vXv\ apparently, hope for smogon to not be able to act for gen. IV and forward. I never liked it and smooshed my noob friends even when they listened to smogon. So there.

Please don't turn this thread to a "bawwww I hate Smogon" thread.

And conversley, please don't turn this in to a 'I think smogon will be able to deal with this/I wuv smogon' thread. ;)
Back on subject, I think that it will be another nice change and an addition to the challenge. But, I will miss some moves.

It only applies to Random Matches. Since the majority of competeitive battling takes place on Friend Code WiFi, or simulators based on such, I don't see this having any affect on the metagame.

If it only applies to the random WiFi setting, then the metagame will not suffer one bit at all.
