The Best Roleplaying We Can Achieve

This board has been awhile in coming, and it's a little different from all the others on psypoke. It's a bit like activities and competitions, and a big like fanfiction, but mostly it's an area that, although it can be a /lot/ of fun, can also be severely abused.
Sneaky_Sneasel and I have been given the honour of moderating this forum, and we'd both like to achieve a balanced set of rules that will prevent abuse while also giving you the freedom to have fun while roleplaying. Two aspects of this: the general rules and the roleplaying application stickies, are already being created.
The general rules will be a set of rules that all roleplayers must follow. They will include no chatspeak, no godmoding/powerplaying and no PG-13 material, amongst others. A list of strongly suggested rules will also be given.
The roleplaying application sticky will be a place where you need to apply before starting a new roleplay. The aim here is to ensure that new games are not redundant, or made just because someone wants their own set of rules or to play their spiffy special character no one else will allow because s/he has a team of six shiny legendaries
But we are only two roleplayers amongst many, and so we open the floor to the rest of you guys: What would you like to see put in place to help keep the roleplaying forum spam free and fun?

Roleplaying Application? I don't think that's such a good idea unless it gets flooded with absolutely ridiculous topics. Do I have to resubmit my RP?

I just moved my long RP here. Does that mean I have to delete it, apply, then retype it again??

Until the Application thread is up, roleplays will not have to apply. Any roleplays we feel are causing trouble after that may be asked to follow the rules more tightly. Applications are mostly a preventative measure, and a way to make sure that people who make roleplays are willing to put some effort into maintaining them.

Here's a suggestion for people who want to join in on a hustling and bustling RP: be sure to READ WHAT'S GOING ON. if you don't know what's currently happening in that RP and you just post with no consent, you might make the players frustrated.

Also, try to use understandable punctuation (if not the "correct" RP punctuation)...it makes things SOOOOOOO much easier if we know if the character is talking or moving...or if the PsyPoke Member is saying something.

Hey, what's happening with the Application thread? Sneaky_Sneasel hasn't been replying, yet I know that he's been online since me and RukarioManiac applied. What's up, guys?

Despite a being a old topic. this is still sticked. so I don't think anyone will blame me for posting some Tips?
It’s Not a Script:
One thing that really annoys me is when a player comes to an RP and talks like: “He walks over and grabs a pokeball. Then he tosses it to the ground” Talk like you were Writing a book. Not a Movie script.
Spelling and capitals:
This one is a frequent problem with newcomers. They usually think something like: oh, they new what I meant when my character said: “ph33r m3 f001ish m0r7al!” or “brb gyz i ned 2 go feed my pkmn.” I have news for you pal; talking like that is the fastest way to get yourself kicked out of a RP. There have been several Role-players on Psypoke who have had a hard time joining any Role-plays because they insisted that chat-speak or L33t-speak could be de-ciphered. Using ‘no caps’ or “CAPS LOCK” can be equally annoying. Eventually word will get out, and then no one will let you into his or her RP’s. If you’re unfortunate enough to never have been taught properly to spell, (Wana hear a joke? Public Education System. No offence intended.) Then either get a Spell Checker for your web browser, or copy and paste your posts into Microsoft Word and run your post through the spell checker. You’ll probably make some mistakes even then, but hopefully the other players will recognize you’re at least making an effort.
Spell checker for Internet Explorer: http://www.iespell.com/
Spell Checker for Mozilla Firefox: http://spellbound.sourceforge.net/
Other: http://www.spellcheck.net/
3: (Just preference, you don’t have to listen to me on this one)
It’s not a Game boy game here. A lot of younger players tend to load up their Pokemon with as many killer moves as they can get away with (I’ll admit. I occasionally do this.), thinking only of how awesome it will be to wipe any bad guys off the face of the Planet/Island/Starship/Wherever. The problem is, while all the other trainers are using weaker attacks like vinewhip to swing from the trees like tarzan, your character is stuck on the ground with nothing but Blastburn, Hydrocannon, and Frenzyplant. Give some thought to the attacks you give your Pokemon besides battling. (Unless your character is a headstrong overconfident type, in which case it would be out of character to follow this tip. )

I completely agree with what you are saying. I think that it was a good idea to put it up here. Sometimes I'll be roaming around, viewing random Roleplays just to read what happens, and people aren't even using "Quotation marks". It gets me confused and I wonder how people understand it. My opinion is:
If you are going to type, take your time. Don't try to type super fast and accidentally mess up. If you are short on time, however, then just post it with less detail, and make a note that you will edit when you get back. You don't need to make it harder for others to read the posts. Sorry if I offended anyone, for I am not meaning to, but I am just saying these things to clear things up. You are not supposed to try and write a book, but you aren't supposed to use first-grade grammar, either. Thank you, and have fun role playing!

I have seen many members doing something like this in RPs:
"Greg approached the stone "wow! This is amazing" And picked it up." However, the character is starting a new sentense, but not a new one in his actions, so it should be done like this:
"Greg approached a stone. "Wow! This is amazing!" exclaimed Greg, picking up the stone."
Most of the time, they lack proper punctuation. It drives me crazy when an RPer doesn't bother to hold a shift key for a second.

I know this ^ was posted months ago, but I'm quite sure that's not correct either because Treeckoluv put quotation marks at the beginning, (I mean, they said "Greg approached..."), and then went on to put quotation marks when their example character - Greg - was speaking; closed the speech, then finally ended the example with quotation marks as well. Quotation marks are used for quotes or speech, so if it's your own story and isn't told from someone else's perspective then you don't need to use quotes at the start/end. And if you really want to get it right, I think that speech should be placed on a different line to the sentence before it.
Using the same example -
Greg approached a stone.
"Wow! This is amazing!" exclaimed Greg, picking up the stone.
If you read books or even some of the better stories on Psypokes, you can see that unless it begins with somebody talking or the narrator is quoting someone/something, it doesn't open with speech marks.
For example:
Valentine wrote: Tangdom lifted his heavy head off of his desk. His forehead and strands of his reddish-black hair were drenched with sweat, and his eyes were tired and dry. Tangdom had drifted to sleep while writing a draft for the introduction to his newest book - a story about an evil king and his ghoulish adventures.
I hope she doesn't mind me using her story as an example, (I'll ask when I speak to her or she can shout at me and I'll delete it), but this is the opening to a story by Valentine. - No quotations because there isn't anything to quote and there's no speech there either.
I'm not particularly bothered if someone doesn't use the correct punctuation, especially as a lot of people on here are young or if the case is that they don't know the correct way, (and I know I'm not close to perfect), but
Treeckoluv wrote: Most of the time, they lack proper punctuation. It drives me crazy when an RPer doesn't bother to hold a shift key for a second. it drives me crazy if someone corrects punctuation incorrectly. (:) Sorry.)

((He put quotes in to tell when he was starting the example, like you do when you copy another person's words.))

"Copying another person's words" - in other words quoting. I don't think they did it for that reason because if you imply that you're about to give an example, (Treekoluv said "...something like this in RPs:"), then you don't need to put speech marks at the start of an example :S. And by doing so, they got the punctuation incorrect anyway because it's not just that you don't need to put speech/quote marks if you're saying that, (once again), as it isn't speech or quotation, but that in this case (as we're talking about correct punctuation and they were advising on the correct use of it), you're actually not meant to use speech marks for something like that.
Like for whatever reason, you don't need to put two brackets.
But all right, I was just trying to help and give a clearer example, I'm sorry.

Oh, but, I'm quite...flattered.
I was actually thinking up of a new ending to the story as well.
...But I have chapters and chapters to type up already...
So uuuum yeah:
Parenthesis are NOT needed! I don't use them. If you're too lazy to just space a little, though, whatever. You don't need to type "OOC" either.
Note: MILD BASHING IN EXAMPLES
If you're just going to post so an RP can speed up, don't post at all. I absolutely do not allow posts like that in my role plays (which is a big reason i keep them invite-only) and I certainly won't be motivated to post in one that's filled with them. Team Omega, even though I joined it (out of force ;___;) had a problem with this.
I feel sick when I see a role play where more than HALF the replies are just out of character chat. Take The Way Of The Ninja for example. Nobody in that RP should be "proud" that their RP has the most posts because all of it is trash. And when people actually post seriously it's only two sentences.
Sorry for bashing on your RP, Kawaii Angel, but I had to do it. It had been driving me insane.
Nobody will want to join a role play based on something half the people don't know about! If it has to be video-game related, please, by all means make it a pokemon rp. Because everyone knows what Pokemon is on this site, or they SHOULD, and you'll get a lot more members. I'm sad to say that the MechWarrior RP (or something like that) only got me to join. No one else did, probably because they didn't know what that was (don't worry, i have nothing against you, darth). This also goes for RPs based off of fan-fictions.
Right, excuse me for the trolling/flaming/whatever you want to call it in my examples, but it's just the truth.
