A new favorite of mine is Steam Powered Giraffe.
This will probably go ignored like most everyone elses posts lol
It's not like some garage band that doesn't make any money though -- they're very successful!
And they're good to boot. Really good.
Other favorites include Oingo Boingo, The Cranberries, Garbage, Combichrist, and loads more!

My favourites (more or less in order)
Muse, Something Corporate, Jimmy Eat World, Making April, The Postal Service, Passion Pit, Phoenix, Sigur Ros, Lisa Mitchell, Fort Minor, Making April, Daphne Loves Derby, Evermore, Death Cab For Cutie, Radiohead, Jack's Mannequin, Taylor Swift, Liquid Tension Experiment, The Beautiful Girls, Radiohead, Mae, Relient K, MGMT, The Fray, The Strokes, Tokyo Police Club, Smashing Pumpkins, Damien Rice, Silverchair, As Tall As Lions...
So I pretty much love indie lyrics with heavy bass lines and electro trebles :p I wish there were more bands like that. like mgmt/passion pit esque, but not really into other indie-electronica bands in that genre though. I like some classical too.. but not totally

My favourite guys have to be Eminem, Lil Wayne and Nas.
Eminem's just got the sh**, brilliant lyrics, good beats, brilliant flow, etc.
Lil Wayne's got a pretty powerful voice, lyrics are quite good.
Nas, similar to eminem.
other than those three, i like (from random genres):
lily allen
pendulum
the prodigy
black eyed peas
girls aloud
usher
taio cruz
coldplay
take that
the killers
yeah, a complete mix of genres, but i like them all.

Might I say, I like Lil Wayne (and sort of Nas), but Eminem is TERRIBLE. I can't stand him, and i know much better rappers than him. Like Tech N9ne, one awesome underground rapper from here in KCMO. you need to listen to caribou lou!

Tech N9ne? Lil Wayne's releasing a collab with him soon. I'm looking forward to it
But what's wrong with Eminem? I can only think of three faults of his:
1. His 6th album, Relapse
2. He gets far too angry sometimes
3. He's terrible at being a father

THEY ARE!? ah s***! I love both of them. but all of those are true, and eminem's rap just annoys me. like maybe this is weird, but i don't think eminems sense of lyricalness isnt that great. when it comes to rap i'm not looking for some deep emotional yet hardcore rap with too much cursing for completely unnecessary reasons. Tech N9ne are straight up awesome yo, and awesome underground rappers. but apparently they're not so underground anymore (:
