... No comment, lol. I've tried the Final Fantasy games and I just can't find them worth it. But I won't lie, I know of chocobos and find them quite adorable.

I've never played Final Fantasy, nor do I have any particular desire to play it. Suck it.

I've beaten the first four Final Fantasies for the first time this month! FF4, which I just finished today, was definitely my favorite out of the four and FF3 was easily my least favorite of both these four and the entire numbered series besides the MMORPGs that I'll never play. However, to make this post pertain to the topic at hand, I will say that it was very weird to play a Final Fantasy game (the first one) that didn't have series staples like Chocobos or a guy named Cid. And my favorite FF mascot, Moogles, were in none of the first four games except FF3 either!
Starting FF5 tomorrow. I played about a third of the game and quit two years ago, but that's not an option this time because I want to beat all of the games in order. I hope those people actually become interesting.

Still adorable though!

Well, he isn't actually in it, but they reference Cid as the creator of the airship in the newer versions (at least in the GBA one) of the first game. And it is very sad that there are no Chocobos in the first one. Also, while we're on the subject of Chocobos... Wark!

Yeah, that line about Cid leaving behind the Airship was ONLY in Dawn of Souls. Since Dawn of Souls is a hollow shell of FF1, and I only own Final Fantasy Origins, I played the manly version of the game in which an Airship was just sitting in a desert with no backstory.
Also, FF5 is better than I remembered it. I think playing FF3, which will probably go down as my least favorite FF game of the main series, helped put things into perspective and made me appreciate FF5 more. Still doesn't have crap on FF6 though! :O

All of those things are in the Final Fantasy Origins version except the extra dungeons, and without dumbing down the difficulty to incredibly easy levels. Also, the Origins version is where all of the updated music in Dawn of Souls came from, but it sounds better in Origins because obviously the Playstation 1 has better sound quality than a portable Super Nintendo.
Actually, Origins has a REALLY good soundtrack that updates the original NES songs for FF1 and FF2 to Playstation-quality levels without changing the form of the songs that much. I wish all of the Playstation ports of the classic FFs had that full update treatment with updated music, graphics, interfaces and bestiaries... but sadly they just slapped pretty straight ports of FF4 and FF6 on a disc and said, "Here you go!"
FF6 came out late enough that it still looked good without all those cosmetic changes, but playing FF4 PS1 after FF1 and FF2 was such a downgrade in terms of presentation, geez. And FF5 PS1's translations seem a little patchy, i.e. Lenna is "Reina," Bartz comes from "Rikks" instead of "Lix," etc.

As someone who has played through Dawn of Souls and Origins I can say that Origins was better in almost every way.
You have not beat FF1 if you played the GBA game. Only real men play the extremely difficult NES game or the PlayStation version.
At the end of FF1 GBA I had around 18 hours of playtime. When I ended FF1 for PS1 I had over 40, if that means anything.
FF4 has a MUCH, much, much better translation in the PlayStation game, I wish the same could be said about FF5 (it's still understandable, but the translation sucks by todays standards.) I've never played the GBA version of FF4.

I own the PS1 and GBA versions of FF4, and the only difference is a few name changes for items and spells here and there, "Fire 2" is "Fira", etc. Other than that, they are the exact same game.

Yeah the GBA version of FF4 was more or less the same, save a few minor changes (like the absence of the item glitch). I believe FF6's GBA port was similar, but again, I'd much rather play it on SNES.

Just got FF IV for DS, and I must say, the Summoner's Chocobo Kick is awesome and the Fat Chocobo is the best thing evar.
