I'm surprised at the amount of Posts in this Topic...after all, the opening Post did state that people shouldn't say anything if they don't like Rap!

Rap just isn't my thing. I like some Eminem, etc, but I mostly just stay away from it.

There is some good rap songs I guess.
The only major song I like is Pixies which is done in an episode of fairly odd parents. That was some funny stuff.

Does anybody else find it funny that John Cena hasn't been mentioned yet?
Man, there's nothing that guy can't suck at...

I like Rap songs for the same reasons that I like other songs: The beat of the song.[/b] Lyrics are nice, they give the songa point, and make it sound better, but from my point of view, is pretty much just constant rambling. Music cannot survive without lyrics IMO, but it is not that important to me. The same goes with Rap. I'd listen to rap songs no matter what the lyrics were (as long as it wasn't completely against my religion, or offended me in some way), because of the simple fact that I like the beat. I also think that you shouldn't post here if you don't like rap, this topic is for people who do, not for people who don't to yell at/make fun of/comment on the people who do.
Anyway, Eminem and 2Pac are pretty kool, I like the songs Without Me, Business, and My Dad's Gone Crazy makes me laugh and also scares me.

I like rap, but there's only one rap station in town & it doesn't come in very good. Just about everything is country in this hicktown.

That was almost two years' necromancy. Might as well make something out of this. O_o
First off, I'd like to say that I hate rap music in general. I'm open-minded enough that I'll change my mind if I hear any decent rap... but I probably won't. However, the reasons I don't like the genre are that it doesn't sound at all interesting to me. As someone (FW?) said already, it's poetry to a beat, and I prefer the actual musical parts of a song to the lyrics. Also, there are social connotations attached to rap; in quite a few of my peers' opinions, being a white person and listening to, say, 50 Cent is considered rather patronising and inappropriate. A racist view, possibly, but you have to go with the crowd.
Now, on to my main point. To everyone who's complained about rap music's poor ethics: you're being both hypocritical and oversensitive. Practically all genres have songs or bands that could be considered offensive. I'm sure even some classical music contains offensive references. Also, you shouldn't care about the ethics of a song; if someone wishes to listen to it, it's their choice and you have no legal right to infringe on that. More to the point, I fail to see what's wrong with having offensive lyrics; people watch offensive films or look at offensive art and have no problem with it.

I love rap. I have 58 songs on my iTunes that contain the word Rap or Hip Hop in their genres. My two favorite rap artists are The Sugarhill Gang and Grandmaster Flash & The Furious Five. Some songs I like by them:
The Sugarhill Gang:
Rapper's Delight
8th Wonder
Apache
Showdown
Grandmaster Flash & The Furious Five:
The Message
She's Fresh
It's Nasty
It's a Shame
I also very much like Arrested Development, Naughty by Nature, and the DK Rap. OPP might preach the wrong message, but instead it tickles me. :p I generally hate "I grew up on the street my life is hard so hear my story" raps, but there is something about Everything's Gonna Be Alright that just entrances me. I generally tune out the lyrics when I listen to the song, and just listen to the background beat. And yes, it is a rap song.
I like how all of Arrested Development's songs preach an important message, which I respect a lot. But the style of their songs irks me a bit. They rap their message, sing a "refrain", and the rest of the song is just the background beat mixed up a little bit. I would like it much better if done in the traditional style of songs where Verse-Refrain-Verse-Reffrain, etc., as opposed to Verse-Refrain-Solo-Couple Minutes of almost nothing-end. A perfect example is their song Children Play With Earth. They talk a little at the beginning, rap "Children play with Earth! Dig your hands in the dirt!" about a billion times, and then they stop, leaving us to a few minutes of the background beat with people talking.
The DK Rap is just awesome. 'Nuff said.
Black Eyed Peas are also a very good artist. Not very good lyrics, but an extraordinary beat. Plus, once in a while they'll have a song that preaches unity or solidarity or peace or something, which is good. I remember reading somewhere that they chose their name because black eyed peas are soul food, and they won't to make music for the soul. I'd have to say that they did a fine job of just that.

Kinda contradictory in the same sentence there, bud.

What he said wasn't contradictory.
To whoever said "townies" listen to rap, (even though it was years ago), I'd be classed as a Townie - unless they're something else where you're form - yet I mostly like rock music. The "mostly" means I also like love songs, (lol). I don't actually like any rap music; it's just the way I dress that makes some people stereotype me as one.
I don't like rap because I want instruments in the music I listen to, (drums and electric/guitar really), and I like the musician to be able to sing instead of talking fast as a lot of rappers appear to do, (I only know what I've heard on the radio so don't start shouting me down). I also despise drugs; violence and womanizing so that rules out the songs with those kind of lyrics. And I like to be able to understand what I'm listening to which I can't usually do when a rap song is on.
However, I do enjoy attempting 'It's Tricky' by RUN DMC on SingStar, lol.

ok here goes.... i like rap music a lot...ya its getting hard to defend it now but it wasnt bad before but thats already been said. In the beginning of this topic (or somewhere near there) people said all rap is about is rappers hating their parents, weed violence, drugs girls that kinda of stuff. ok thats true now a days except the hating the parents thing. that really annoyed me i never freking heard any dam rap song that said them hating their parents. maybe im mistaken but isn't that emo or something?? also said earlier rock isnt all perfect you cant judge rap cause of idiot rappers like 50 cent or eminem (who wasnt as bad as 50 but was close) 50 cent is not the only dam rapper goddamit it pisses me off to see everyone post something bad about rap and give the example 50 cent, its just stupid. rock has some stupid people who say stupid stuff and womanize too. its not just rap. its just rich ppl who make music and let the power of money go to their heads i mean most singers and famous people have taken drugs.
thats what i think anyways

So true.
I enjoy rap, but only a limited selection of artists and albums. I like 50 Cent, but only his first two albums. (IF you think The Massacre was his second album, then you need to LURK MOAR.) Eminem was good, but once again, his style went down hill after The Eminem Show. Big L is one of the best rappers I have ever heard. M.I.A. has a fresh, new sound that is pretty cool. DMX is very talented, too. MC Chris, for those of you who know him, has an unbelievable lyrical talent (and I'm not talking about that dumb song "Fett's Vette," either). T.I., along with Ludacris, are two of the only modern themed rappers that I like. The College Dropout by Kanye West was a phenomenal CD, but his other two are sub-par.
Other than what's stated above, to me, rap is terrible. Furthermore, I think that people need to stop hating on others for their music tastes. You like what you like, I like what I like, end of discussion. You don't need to tell others how their opinions are wrong because you disagree with them.

Okay let me clear something up, HIP HOP IS NOT RAP!!!
Most of the so called "rappers" actually mostly do hip-hop music. Hip-Hop is the thing that's thrash like Soulja Boy, or 50 Cent. Most of the crap they play on the radio sucks for a reason, because it's meant to be danced to in the club. Most of the actual good rap songs never hit the radio(unless you live in Florida of course)there released in mixtapes. Hip-Hop truly is dead, as for rap I see nothing wrong about it, I know some people just don't like some things but don't b**ch about how it sucks when most of you don't have your facts straight.
-Rant is mostly geared towards PKM or whatever and all the posts I've read about how rap sucks today, plus I just found out I could have went to a Van Halen concert

I like some rap. Most of the rap on my iPod is by Eminem. But one thing is for sure, Lil Wayne is my least favorite. His rap is just trash talk. Eminem's, in comparison to him, is poetry. (Did anybody watch that segment on Eminem on 60 Minutes?)

I hate rap, I hate it so much. There are songs that are exceptions of course, but for the most part, rap sucks. The most common problems with rap are that the lyrics are uncreative, it enhances the worst parts of slang (being in context others might not know because of location and constant changes and so on, regressing actual words to grunts, attempting to push it into legitamite English where it DOES NOT BELONG), is full of references that people who don't read trashy tabloids have no clue about, is racist (only black people aren't made fun of for attempting a career for it, but are in turn stereotyped) and, as general rule, religious or shallow and vulgar, usually in very demeaning ways.
