So another three months have passed which means it's time for me to host another Trivia! XY have been out for a month now so I've decided that this time most of the questions (at least 50/60) will be related to Gen 6. If you didn't beat the game yet, get on it so that you can earn precious points (and avoid spoilers). The event will be on Saturday, December 14 at 6pm EST (New York/Ontario/Quebec time).

GAME DETAILS

Where/when?

In the #psypoketrivia chat channel on KBFail's server (irc.kbfail.net). Date and time is Saturday, December 14 at 6pm EST. I anticipate that the game will take 1 hour.

For using the java applet to access the chats: go here, click on the Java Applet link, and type /join #psypoketrivia when you're connected.

How it works:

At the start +m will be set. I will state the category if a new one is starting.

Next, before stating the question, I will say "Ready?", then set -m and ask the question.

At this point everyone will be able to give the answer to the question. There will be no limit to how many times you can answer in. Please do not spam the channel and only submit answers to the question at this time so as to reduce lag.

When I see the first person to give the correct answer I will set +m and then state the person who gave the answer as well as the correct answer. That person will earn a point. The goal is to earn as many points as you can.

Rules:

1. Do not use any colours or /me commands.
2. Do not argue if you thought that you answered before someone else. It will go by what appears on my screen only.
3. Do not use any reference materials online OR offline (such as the site or a text file on your computer).
4. Do not change your nick during the event.

Yes, most of the questions will be Pokemon related.

Is there freezing?
Yes. Here is how it will be implemented:

-only the player in the lead will be affected by freezing. This includes being tied for the lead.
-you will be frozen each time your score reaches a multiple of five, i.e. 5, 10, 15, 20, etc.
-while frozen, you will not be permitted to answer the question asked after you were frozen. You will only be frozen for one question.
-if you do attempt to answer a question while frozen, you will be penalized one point. Note that if you are penalized, the next point you earn will bring you back to a multiple of five and you will be frozen again. You do not need to keep track of your score, I will tell you when you are frozen.
-if you give an answer while frozen you can't take it back, you will lose the point.

Why can't I talk when I get in there?
This would be supposing that you're late and +m is set. This usually means that it is between questions. +m is a special mode to be set on chat channels that mutes people without special privileges (voice or op). These are only given to some staff and others who have won the status in previous games.

How will typos be dealt with?
If they are not too bad I will accept them. This will be subject to my discretion but I will try to be consistent.

What happens to rule-breakers?
Loss of all points in the game, loss of all Psybucks on the offender's forum account, and permanent bans from #psypoke, #psypoketrivia, the forums, the main site, and the internet forever. In other words, don't do it. :O

Note that is only a possibility, not a guarantee. I am still on indefinite hiatus from Pokemon and, in the event that there's a tournament that my TO wants me to judge that day, I would have to put my judging responsibilities first anyway.

I'll most likely be able to make all of them. My cross country season ends on Saturday, so my schedule is going to be nice and freed up from now on.

Given how I've all but disavowed Pokemon except for highly specific areas, I think the word you're looking for is not 'scared', but 'disinterested'.

Is it okay to change your nick if you're only spectating? Why even bother banning colors and /me? Anyone who uses them during a trivia event would be shooting themselves in the foot anyway. Is there going to be a bot running all of this?

No, CG runs the whole thing manually, but I think it's mostly just to avoid confusion between players and for keeping the scores straight.

The hosting tasks are semi-automated but mostly it is a human (i.e. me) running things. I believe the human hosting element makes these games much more enjoyable than if they were entirely bot run. Jeopardy (which we haven't done in a while) has much more automation but it's still me running things live.

The reason I don't allow nick changes is to make it easier for me to award points to the correct person. None of the automation would break. If you are only spectating I don't mind you changing your nick but it will still get annoying if someone plans to do so frequently, right?

As for colours and /me, during the event I (the host) speak only in /me. Having everyone else speak in plain colouring makes it very easy for the players to quickly identify which lines were questions or the like.

Turns out I'll be able to most likely make the 6:00 one as well.

Edit: Alright, so…apparently mIRC is a Windows system? I'm on a Mac, so that doesn't work. I've tried the Java Applet as well, but I just end up with a solid blue screen. Is there something else that I can do to join the chat room?

I'm going to feel really stupid if I missed the answer to that somewhere obvious...
